Hello, I'm Bill, and I've been tinkering with various kinds of design and technology since I was teenager. I have a bachelor's degree in Digital Media from East Tennessee State University and I've been working in the web and design field for five years.
Going into college I decided that I wanted to work with graphics and interaction, so I enrolled in my school's unique Digital Media program. My interests grew as I took courses in web development, graphic design, traditional art, photography, 3D modeling, and video editing among several other subjects. I began volunteering for projects to help build my skills, including building a website for my fraternity and taking photos of homecoming candidates and local bands.
After school, I worked as a graphic designer for a marketing and distribution company in Virginia Beach. I learned a lot about production and print techniques as well as staying productive and maintaining an efficient workflow. I worked with a diverse group on many different projects, from doing database work in MSSQL with the IT manager to laying out Sony advertisements for use in military exchanges. I also co-created a 3D/Flash demo for the Neuros OSD, a Linux-based DVR-type device that generated quite a bit of buzz due to its open technology.
My next job was at a small local newspaper back home in east Tennessee. On any given day I'd build a banner ad or three, shoot and edit a couple of videos, work on the design for a new section of the website, write some code, and assist reporters with their news videos. In this position I learned to effectively work on my own, budgeting out my time to several different departments to help everyone in the office make the most of our online platform.
Currently I'm doing mostly the same kind of work but for a large television station in southwest Virginia. I was promoted to a management position there in December 2010.
